Gift Section

A splendid gesture to the class of exservicemen most in need of assistance, and worthy of all that can be done for them, has been made by an Onerahi

resident. Mrs F. M. Commins. of Sherwood Rise. Mrs Commins has offered to give a quarter section on Sherwood Rise to any ex-serviceman on full disability pension. The offer is not restricted to Whangarei, and, while the local branch of . the Returned Services Association will endeavour to find a suitable exserviceman from its own membership, an application from another district would be considered.

The Whangarei secretary (Mr R. G. Russell) has written to the Pensions Department requesting a list of servicemen on full disability pension and a selection will be made by the executive.

The section is elevated and has a view over the Whangarei Harbour and the airport in surroundings which could not be more suitable for a man whose working life was terminated by the war. If the section is sold within 10 years of taking possession, Mrs Commins had directed that the value of the property be handed to the Whangarei branch of the RSA to use at its own discretion.

Apart from that there are no conditions—the section is a straight out gift.
