Record Outward Toll Traffic In Whangarei
TELEPHONE toll calls from Whangarei on Monday created an all-time record. For the first time the 1000 mark was passed.
Throughout the year the average of daily toll calls has been about 700, but on several occasions the 900 mark has been reached, while oir Monday, December 13 a new record of 968 was made only to be surpassed last Monday with a total of 1082. Yesterday the total was 952. With more circuits to Auckland being made available, and more telephones—in short supply during and immediately after the war years—becoming more available, toll traffic from Whangarei has been steadily increasing.
In November last year 17,844 outward toll calls were made from Whangarei while last month the corresponding total was 20,690. D I{J of this month the total was 10;684 compare d with 9265 for the corresponding period So far outward telegrams have not shown a similar increase but it is expected that the traffic for today, tomorrow and Friday will reach the totals recorded during the last three days before Christmas last year.
