Criticism Widespread

Criticism of the Netherland’s action is widespread. ft had been condemned by almost the entire Indian Press. The British-controlled Statesman said: “The Dutch have struck a blow not only at Jogjakarta, but also against their own honour and the embryo system of world government.” The newspaper described the Dutch action as a “drift to the Cominform.” The Hindustan Times, a Congress Party newspaper, wrote: “By attempting a coup d’etat in Indonesia, while the Security Council is in charge of the issue, the Dutch Government has shown complete disregard for its obligations under the United Nations Charter.” The right-wing Indian News Chronicle, described the action as “Imperialism run amok.” Reuters Copenhagen correspondent says Danish employees at Copenhagen’s Kastrup airport—one of the largest in Europe—threaten to boycott all Dutch planes if the Danish Government does not protest to Holland against events in Indonesia. In Cairo, the \rab League has asked the Security Council to order the Netherlands Government to stop their police ('action in Indonesia, which the league

termed an “attempt to impose rule ..contrary to the people’s will and treaties between the two countries.” In Bagdad, the Irak Parliament passed a resolution protesting against the Dutch action.

In Rangoon, the Prime Minister (Thakin Nu) urged an immediate conference of all Asian countries for considering an all-out aid to the Indonesians.

He said Burma would be only too glad to play whatever part she • was called upon to do.
