R. G. MURDOCH NEW NAPB CHAIRMAN

DARGAVILLE, Thu. (Sp.)— Mr R. G. Murdoch was elected chairman of the North Auckland Power Board at today s meeting held in Dargaville. He replaces Mr A. V. Page, who is leaving the district and who retired from the chair at the boaid meeting last month. . Mr B. A. Wood, of Whenuanui, Ruawai, replaces Mr Page as representative of the Otamatea County on the board.

Mr Murdoch was nominated by Mr A. Clarke and seconded by Mr J. A. S. Mac Kay.

“I thank the members for their confidence, and will try to transact the board’s business in a fair and just manner,” said Mr Murdoch from the chair.

Hobson County still needs a lot of reticulation, and has never had a board chairman,” said Mr Mac Kay. "It is fitting that Mr Murdoch should be elected.”

His honorarium was fixed at £2OO a year, the same as last year. As before, the whole board was elected to the finance committee, Mr Murdoch being elected chairman. Members elected to the executive committee were: Messrs Murdoch, Mac Kay, Appleton, D. H. Cochrane, H. Smith, J. Sterling.

He had found him particularly impartial to districts. “He would be an impartial and keen worker for the reticulation of the country districts, and that is our job today,” Mr Mac Kay remarked. Mr E. R. Rope nominated Mr E. G. Appleton for the position. Mr Rope said Mr Appleton had joined the board in 1923, and, in 25 years, he had never been chairman. He was due for a term in that office, as his experience made him one of the soundest board members. APPLETON WITHDRAWS

CHURCH NOTICES

Mr Appleton withdrew his nomination, saying members knew why he did so.

In reply to Mr H. Smith he said it was not because he was contemplating a trip to England next year.
