Presbyterian Women's Fellowship

Fun and good humour, combined with a programme of vocal music and entertaining novel items, marked the closing meeting for the year of the Whangarei Presbyterian Women’s Fellowship, held in the church hall. There was a very large audience, which bore testimony to the work that has been put into developing a movement introduced after a conference in Wellington several years ago.

Mrs J. A. Inkster, who presided, explained that the purpose of the Fellowship was to unite the women of the congregation in a true spirit of unity, and the number present evidenced the success of the organisation.

VARIED PROGRAMME The hall was artistically decorated and arranged, and the programme, which was full of delightful surprises, included: The Fellowship, under the conductorship of Mrs Auld (who was presented with a unique baton), two numbers; Miss K. Dunning, a very interesting talk on Christmas customs, recalling amusing incidents; old folk songs by Mesdames Uffindell, Rarity, G. S. Brown, Kimber and Inkster; modern songs, by Misses Ivy Kimber, Dorothy Nicholls, Margaret Fyfe and Shirley Mowett; a clever skit by members of the Young Women’s Bible Class (Misses Shirley Fawcett, E. M. Inkster, Betty and Jean Brown); a chorus, with solo, by Mrs Margaret Fyfe; solos by representatives of Sunday Schools (Mary Wilson, Whau Valley, Kathleen Reyburn, Whangarei, and Margaret Fyfe); carols, by PWMU, Fellowship, Girls' Life Brigade, Choir, Young People’s Club and senior and junior Bible Classes; solo. Miss McMillan.

CHRISTMAS NOVELTIES A distribution from a Christmas tree included ornamental hats to the president (Mrs A. J. Swindells) and the secretary (Mrs A. T. Dunne), of the Fellowship, and a garland of flowers to Miss Killen. A special Christmas pudding, sung in to the words of an original song containing local hits, was the feature of supper, which concluded the evening.
