Forest And Bird Protection Society

Letters of appreciation have been received by the Whangarei Forest and Bird Society from people all over New Zealand for the complimentary copies ot Mr W. R. McGregor’s book on Waipoua Kauri Forest. These copies were sent to people the society considered would be interested in protecting the forest from milling operations. In reply to a request from the Whangarei Borough Council to suggest a date for Arbor Bay, it was decided to inform the council that the second Thursday in June would be suitable. It is understood that the parks committee of the council will cooperate with the society in its tree planting activities on that day.

NGUNGURU AND FALLS The society was informed of t the work done by the Ngunguru Beautifiication Society, which has planted trees on the foreshore and round the camping area. In addition it had repaired the bridge across the stream in the camping grounds and done general cleaning up of the area by voluntary labour. Members of the executive commented favourably on the enterprise of the residents in carrying out permanent improvements to their district. The path to the foot of the Whangarei Falls has been completed and it is now possible to climb down to the basin by a reasonable grade. The work of building and forming the path on the Domain was done by voluntary labour from the society iand other public-spirited organisations in the town.
