Bridegroom In Despair, But Ending Was Happy
INVERCARGILL, Wert. (bp.;.-—un ms weuumy uay Invercargill bridegroom—, (1) Boarded the wrong train by mistake leaving his wife and luggage on the platform; , . , , (2) Discovered his mistake and raced back by taxi to eaten his proper train; „ (3) Found that his wife was not on the tram alter all; (4) Was re-united at Invercargill three and a half hours late. This is how it happened:
Arriving with his bride at the Invercargill station to catch the 7 a.m. express for Christchurch, the bridegroom found that he had time to spare.
Alighting at the first stop, he hailed a taxi.
The driver agreed to take him to Woodlands, the first stop of the express.
■ Leaving his luggage and his bride standing on the platform, he went off to a bookstall to buy a morning paper.
The taxi won the race, but the bridgegroom was again In despair when a search of the express, carriage by carriage, showed that his bride was not on the train.
He heard the station bell ring and made a dash for a moving train opposite the bookstall, just managing to clamber on board.
Hurrying through in search of his bride, he met the guard, who asked for his ticket. AGAIN IN DESPAIR
So he left the express at Edendale and in due course caught a slow train, which landed him back in Invercargill at 10.35 a.m. On the platform he found a very agitated bride and his luggage still waiting for him, as they had been for three and a-half hours.
He produced his tickets and learned that he was on the Invercargill-Bluff train, which leaves five minutes before the express.
