Burned in Ship's Galley Explosion

AUCKLAND. Tue. (P.A.) Second degree burns almost to every part of his body were suffered by the second engineer of the Works Department ketch, New Golden Hind, Mr F. Dowling, of Auckland, when escaping after rock-gas exploded in the vessel’s galley while she was in Rarotonga about a month ago. The ketch returned to Auckland today with ‘25 tons of arrowroot, but Mr Dowling still :s in Rarotonga Hospital. The accident occurred when a feedpipe burst while he was changing a cylinder. The galley fire was alight, and' the resulting explosion and fire badly scorched him. He was v/earing only shorts. • Mr Dowling is expected to return to New Zealand soon.
