Training Personnel For R. Indian Navy
AUCKLAND. Tue. (Sp.).—Training personnel for the Royal Indian Navy is the work of Comman'dfer M G Collins, R.N., who arrived from Australia by air yesterday on leave. Commander Collins is one of 25 officers on loan from the Royal Navy who are stationed at a naval training establishment at Cochin, in Southern India The authorities were trying to overcome a shortage of officers in the Royal Indian Navy by taking direct entries from university graduates at the rate of 20 every eight weeks, said Commander Collins. Only graduates in science were being recruited in this way because they were the easiest to train quickly. There was no lack of applications for entry.
