Japs Still Keep Feudal Ways

AUCKLAND, Sat. (Sp.).—Although the sitting time of the International Military Tribunal for the Far Easl had been originally expected to last six months, the actual sitting took two and a half years, said the member for New Zealand (Mr Justice Northcroft) on his return after nearly three years in Japan. Japan had been under a feudal system for so long that even in modern time; it had not given up feudal ways, His Honor said.

“There can be no hope in Japan of democracy as we know it for some generations, until the Japanese have been re-educated out of their feudal habit of thought and action,” he added. From time to time they subjected themselves to the dominating power in the country, and this was the case with the occupational force under General MacArthur.
