Maungakaramea Ladies Raise £3OO For Society
THROUGH their efforts in catering at the local saleyards, at dog trials, kitchen evenings and farewells, ladies of the Maungakaramea Progressive Society have raised £3OO. This was revealed when the balance sheet was presented at the annual meeting of the society last night.
If a decision is made to lay down a bowling green and croquet lawns at Maungakaramea, the society will donate the sum of £250 towards the cost of the project. In his report to the meeting, the president (Mr T. O’Shea) congratulated the ladies on their remarkable effort. Mr T O'Carroll in endorsing Mr O'Shea’s remarks, said that the ladies had tilled a breach particularly during the war years. They were a credit to themselves and to the district. Subscriptions were again fixed at 2/6 per member.
The ladies intimated that they were prepared to continue to provide lunches at the saleyards. The charge would be 1/e per head. Officers elected were:—President Mr T. O'Shea; vice presidents, Mesdnmes L. Woodhouse and L. Smith; secretary, Mrs R. N. Attwood; assist-ant-secretary, Mrs T. W. Hannam: ladies committee, Mesdames B. Cowan. P. A. Thorne. T. Hannam, J. Litt, L. O'Carroll and L. Smith; men's committee, Messrs T. Hannam, A. V. Babe, L. Smith, R. N. Attwood, R. Hudson, H. Walker, H. Wenzlick; auditor, Mr G. Winnard.
