Week-End Sporting Bill

A comprehensive sporting bill is being presented in the Whangarei district during Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

TENNIS: Feature attraction is the visit of the four professional tennis stars, Kramer, Riggs, Segura and Pails and their matches at the Whangarei club’s courts on Monday. Tomorrow, the first A grade inter-club match between Whangarei and Mairtown is being played on the Whangarei courts and B and C grade and country competitions are being continued. CRICKET: Senior and junior competitions. BOXING: Hikurangi tournament on Saturday night. BOWLS: Feature events are the opening of the Kamo club tomorrow and the full-clay tournament at Whangarei on Sunday. A full-day tournament at Hikurangi tomorrow has been cancelled. FISHING: Anglers have been keep.ing a close eye on the weather during the past day or two. , They have sharpened their hooks and overhauled their tackle in preparation for the Whangarei Deep Sea Anglers Club's first big outing of the season. It is anticipated that close on 100 members will participate in tne official opening. They will start early on Sunday morning to be on the grounds at low tide—about 11.30 a.m. The launches will be returning together to arrive at the Town Basin at about 5 p.m.

YACHTING: An all class race to Farua Bay for the Powell Cup will be sailed by the Whangarei Cruising Club tomorrow. A Mark Foy start will be made at Port Whangarei. On Sunday the second Sanders Cup trial will be sailed at Parua Bay. All Black, owned by club commodore E. R. K. Wilkinson won the first, and trials will be sailed until one boat has three wins.
