MEET PATRICIA HARTY THE BAND’S POPULAR GIRL Popular Girl for Whangarei sponsored by the Whangarei Municipal Band is MISS PATRICIA HARTY, the well-known Y.W.C.A. Secretary. As an indefatigable organiser of youth clubs, she is widely known to the younger set in the Drop, In Club, the Business Girls’ Club and the Young Marrieds’ Club. Miss Harty is a Parua Bay girl, but her interests have takfen her as far afield as Wanganui, where she was assistant matron of the Wanganui Girls' College. Sport has always taken a large part of her time, with horseback riding and tramping as her favourites. During the war she returned from high school to manage her father’s farm while he was in the forces and took her higher leaving certificate by correspondence. Possessing a trained mezzo-soprano voice she prefers singing light classical numbers. 1 Outdoor activities are her main interests, with tramping and swimming occupying most of her spare time. She went with the Whangarei Tramping Club on its Labour week-end trip to Whangamumu. The Band escorted their popular girl through the streets of Whangarei last night, and they will conduct a Concert in the Parua Bay Hall next TUESDAY NIGHT, when residents will have an opportunity of supporting a local girl in the Popular Girl contest.
