Charged With Fraud

AUCKLAND, Sat. (Sp.)—The case for the prosecution ended yesterday in the trial of three men who are accused of defrauding the x'ublic Works Department of sums totalling £1026, before Mr Justice Fair and a jury. The accused are George Malcolm Smith, clerk, 35, Mate Delich, contractor, 58, and' James Fullerton Brown, insurance agent, 43. Against Smith alone or in association with one of the others there are 23 charges of theft and 23 of forging time sheets or daily wage sheets. Against Smith and Brown there are three charges of theft, and against Smith and Delich nine charges of theft and nine of forgery. After further evidence was heard, the case was adjourned until Monday.
