East- Coast Railway
GISBORNE. Thu. (P.A.)—The necessity for an early start on a constructional survey of the route of the Gis-borne-Taneatua railway link, was urged by the Chamber of Commerce in a resolution passed after a meeting with an Auckland Chamber delegation. The chamber suggested that if expert staff was not available in the Dominion. the personnel should be the best that could be imported. A second resolution stating that it was realised that construction of the railway could not be completed for several years, insisted on an immediate programme of road construction northwards, much in excess of that attempted.
