Russia Will Not Quit UNO

PARIS, Mon. (1 p.m.).—The Russian delegate (M. Vyshinsky) categorically denied that Russia had any intention of leaving the United Nations. In an exclusive interview with a correspondent of the magazine “Illustrated” before the Western Powers announced their intention of taking the Berlin case to the United Nations he said in English:

“We shall not abandon the United Nations. We shall stay on, and work together with the other peoples of the world.”

MAY WALK OUT Reuters says London diplomatic quarters believed that Mr Bevin’s warning to the United Nations’ Assembly that: “If we cannot proceed on a world basis we must proceed on a regional basis,” indicated that, the Western Powers think Russia and her Eastern allies may walk out of the United Nations over the Berlin dispute.

In such an event the Western Powers would have to consider how the United Nations could continue functioning as a restricted organisation without participation of six of its foundation members. The United Nations’ Charter contains no provision for this development.

Faced with such a grave crisis, the United Nations would have to devise fresh rules and procedure to meet it.
