Air Lift
The Russian authorities have filed, at the air safety centre in Berlin, new regulations which, if accepted, would make the air lift almost negligible, says the British United Press Berlin correspondent. The Russians insist that these regulations are now the rules governing flights to Berlin, but the British, United States and French Military Governments have rejected them. The regulations forbid night flights along the air corridors, flights through dense clouds and flights over various national sectors of Greater Berlin, except with permission of the appropriate command. Broadcasting from the American sector of Berlin tonight, Professor Ernst Reuter, who was elected Lord Mayor in 1947, but was prevented by the Russians from taking his post, called upon Berliners to remain calm and determined. “In the end, victory will be sure.” he said. “We must be prepared to meet all forms of force from the Russians. “We shall remain peaceful but determined.”
