INDIA
NEW DELHI.— It is reliably stated that when Mr Nehru attends the Commonwealth Prime Ministers’ conference in London in October he will suggest a formula by which India* could pr&claim herself a Republic and yet still' retain links with Britain. It is stated th-at Mr Nehru is empowered by the Cabinet and the Congress Party to make the proposals. Some Congress members consider the possibility of a break with the Commonwealth would provide campaign fuel for the British Conservatives, and be a blow to the Labour Party, which gave India Dominion status. * * *
