All goods arriving in New Zealand under the appreciated exchange must be passed on to the consumer at the lower price said Mr Nordmeyer.
The Price Tribunal would issue a general price order which would have the effect of making it compulsory to vary all existing price orders to ensue that the lower prices applied to all new goods. A reasonable time would be given for the disposal of olcl stock. The Minister said that some goods which had been paid for at sight draft already were arriving In New Zealand under the revised exchange. Under no circumstances would a trader be allowed to pass on any such goods at the former price. A reasonable time should be given for the disposal of old stock and goods purchased under the old exchange rate which might not arrive in the Dominion for anything up to two months. No decision could be made on this because the rate of turnover varied with different commodities. There would be a period of dislocation and adjustment said the Minister.
