Bay Racing Club Seeking Licence

5/- Tote . . .

KAWAKAWA, Sat. <Sp.)— A suggestion that, as it was the senior picnic club of the North, the Bay of Islands Racing Club should apply to the Internal Affairs Department for a licence to run an experimental 5/- totalisator was made at the club’s annual meeting, held in Kawakawa.

The suggestion was made by Mr F. A. Paul, who considered that the 5/“tote” could be in the nature of a trial under the supervision of one of the department’s officers. The meeting agreed to his suggestion and application will accordingly be made.

It was agreed that it be a direction to the executive committee that, irrespective of whether a totalisaor licence should be granted or not. stake money for next summer’s meeting shall remain at last year's figures.

Application is to bo made to the District Racing Council for January 24 as the date of the 1949 meeting. A full list of officers was chosen with the exception of the post of handicapper. It was decided to leave this unfilled pending the meeting in Kaikoho at the end of August of the Northland Picnic Racing Association.

This decision was made at the suggestion of Mr C. R. Powell, who considered it was desirable that there should be only one handicapper for all Northland picnic racing clubs. Powell, Paul. Lusk. F. E. Taylor and R. Wynyard: executive committee, Messrs Lusk, E. D. Taylor. Paul, Griffiths. Corr, F. E. Taylor, H. Squire, Powell and G. Quarrie; general committee. Messrs J. Howarth, W. Noy, D. Thomas, F. H. Johnson. H. T. Buckton, L. Ncsbit, F. Marshall, N. Law. D. C. Findlay and executive committtee members; course committee. Messrs Powell. Lusk. Wall, Marshall, Paul. E. D. Taylor. E. Lewis. Quarrie and J. W. Cookson; delegates to Northland association. Messrs Lusk and Paul.

Cleary; patrol stewards, Quarrie. F. E. Taylor. J. Judd and J. B. Gaisford; surgeons, Drs G. J. Frengley and E. HefTerd; veterinary surgeon. Mr G. Dunlop.
