Honorary Doctorate For Sir Peter Buck
WELLINGTON, Sat. (P.A.)— Advice has been received in Wellington that Sir Peter Buck, director of the Bishop Museum. Honolulu, has been awarded an honorary doctorate in literature by the University of Hawaii, in recognition of his distinguished record as an ethnologist, his contribution to the knowledge of mankind, and his zeal as an interpreter of Polynesia. “The territory of Hawaii is proud of your achievements and is honoured by the fact that you have chosen to make Hawaii your home and the locus of your major services to mankind,” read the citation accompanying the degree. It described the New Zealander as a “truly great man ”
- SCOUTS’ REUNION.—Scouts from Wellington, Palmerston North. Levin. Rotorua. Matamata and Thames have gathered in Rotorua today to celebrate their first reunion of the Titoki Troop, which was part of the New Zealand contingent to the jamboree in France last year.
