SACRIFICES

HAMBURG. The Oldenburg police raided a religions meeting at a nearby village and saved two children who were lashed to chairs and were to be slaughtered as human sacrifices, says the Associated Press correspondent. The police say they arrested 14 members of a sect who had been praying last Saturday and were expecting the end of the world on August 23. Those arrested include the children’s father, who is alleged to be the leader of the sect. The children were to have been sacrificed to “prevent <ihe ►sounding of the Last Trumpet.” * * *
