Blind Composers Win Prizes
WELLINGTON, Sat. (P.A.).—The winner and one of the two other competitors who tied for second place in the Auckland Competitions Society’s first song composition contest today have never seen their own manuscripts. They are Mr Joseph H. Papesch and Miss Ethel Gibson. Both are blind. Of Mr Papesch’s winning composition the judge, Mr Charles Martin, said:, “It is a serious effort by one who has shown great imagination, fine musicianship and sound technique. Mr Papesch is director of music at the Institute for the Blind.
The competitions festival opened today and continues till September 6.
