No Whangarei Milk For Dargaville DHS
Bottle stocks are at present insufficient to allow milk to be supplied from the Whangarei milk treatment house to the Dargaville District High School, the Whangarei town clerk (Mr L. C. Hall), who is also secretary of the Whangarei Milk Authority, advised the Dargaville School Committee. While it was anticipated that the manufacturers of milk bottles might be able to make some increase in consignments, it was considered desirable that the supply to the Dargaville School should be held over in the meantime.
According to Mr R. D. Smith, who had met the town clerk over the matter, the plant at Whangarei could not accommodate a greatly increased supply of milk. LOAN APPLICATION
An application had been made to the Local Government Loans Board for £6OOO for the purchasing of additional plant. This was specified in the clerk’s letter as being renewed bottle-washing facilities and a renewed filling and capping machine. Mr Smith said he had told Mr Hall that the committee regarded the situation as serious as there were a number of town children not getting milk. In turn Mr Hall had promised to inform the committee as soon as the position improved. The clerk did not think there was any hope of small boroughs like Bargaville getting a milk supply plant. If obtained, Mr Hall did not think it could be run economically.
