Power Foils When Wire Breaks

A broken wire caused power to fail in Whangarei about 4.33 p.m. yesterday. ■ ' Two lines are needed to carry sufficient power to the town, and, when one broke, electricity had to be cut oil until the peak decreased enough to allow one line to carry the load. Until this happened power was cut off in the town in sections to allow people to do their tea-cooking. One section was cut off and *then another until 6.50 p.m., when the single line could supply enough power. At midnight power was cut off altogether for a short time to allow repairs to be made to the broken wire.
