Harbour improvements
Most of the preparation work for the Waiarohia Creek diversion has been done, and progress, which has been slow owing to the shallow water and the gravelly nature of the bottom, is expected to be much more rapid in the next few weeks, the Whangarei Harbour Board was informed yesterday.
The pilot-harbourmaster, (Captain E. S. Ross), reported that two beacons were placed in the Portland Channel, the Annoyance Point light beacon was re painted and the Frenchman light was repaired during the month.
Arrangements have been made to procure timber for the new harbour board launch, which will be built in the slip-yard.
Captain Ross arranged to obtain the use of a buoy, the property of the Portland Cement Co., and which has been moored at the turning basin for some years.
The manager (Mr E. Leese) said that the company had no further use for the buoy and the board was welcome to it.
It is intended to repair the buoy and anchor it over the Wellington Reck.
