Uracorsscious Mon Found By Police

MASTERTON. Mon. (P.A.)—A Masterton resident, Mr Robert Baikie, aged about 40, single, a porter at the Masterton Hospital, was found at 4 o’clock yesterday morning by a police constable, lying unconscious in a pool of blood in a shop entrance in Queen Street. The police at first thought he had been hit by a motor car, but on investigating traced bloodstains for about 500 yards to the Waipoua River bed, where they discovered Mr Baikie’s bloodstained hat and watch. A search indicated that Mr Baikie had fallen from a bridge a distance of about 20ft to the riverbed. He was taken to the hospital. His injuries consist of a fractured skull and injuries to the face and body. He recovered consciousness yesterday afternoon, but could not account for his injuries.
