Wisemans Suffer First Defeat
Basketball . . .
The leading team in the Whangarei Basketball Association’s A grade championship, Wisemans, suffered its first defeat of the season on Saturday. It went down to Athletic. 12 —7. The defence of both teams was excellent, with that of Athletic really outstanding. The Athletic centres also played ..particularly well. R. Martin (Old Girls) and R. Babe (Waiotira) were the best players in their match. Good shooting by N. Going and M. Pearce played a big part in YWCA’s win over Convent. A good standard of basketball was seen in all B grade matches. J. Cameron (Mata) and V. Blundell (Kamo) were prominent. M. Turketo (Monks) and M. Clyde (Takahiwai) were in fine form in the C grade.
