Dunedin Ultimatum Deadline Extended
DUNEDIN, Fri. (P.A.). —An ultimatum issued by the City Council, that
all tramwaymen not reporting for duty at seven o'clock this morning, would be dismissed, has been extended until this afternoon at the request of the Minister of Defence, (Mr Jones), who is in Dunedin. The Minister indicated that he wished to attend a meeting of the union at 2 p.m. today, and the ultimatum will not now take effect until after the meeting and will be dependent on a report of the meeting furnished to the council by Mr Jones. The services were at a standstill again yesterday. The Prime Minister (Mr Fraser), j telephoned the council yesterday sug- j gesting that the amount of pay in j dispute be paid into a special trust: account pending settlement of the j dispute. The council agreed to this pro- j cedure and has invited union representatives to inspect the account if they wish.
