Kartigi Engineers Not involved

Reports of a dispute on the collier Kartigi at Auckland were misleading, according to a statement issued by the secretary of the New Zealand Institute of Marine and Power Engineers (Mr W. Sommerville).

He said: “Reports are misleading in that reference was made to members of the engine-rooms staff, and. for the information of the public and those not familiar with such matters, I would like to make it clear that the engineroom staff comprises engineer officers and ratings, and that engineer officers are not in any way involved in connection with the dispute, as the public might gain from Press reports. “It is the stokehold ratings who question the quality of the carpet supplied for hand-rags, not the engineer officers, who have no use for rags."
