“Lemon squeezer” hats distinguished the 1914-18 Diggers, a ITomburg, framed and filched, is the Prime Minister’s headpiece, and a silk topper is favoured by Sir John Falconer, visiting ex-Lord Provost of .Edinburgh, but his topper has made only one appearance in New Zealand. Sir John, addressing a public meeting at Whangarei last night, was referring to changes in England, changes of food and fashion. Toppers, he said, were still worn, but not so frequently. He brought one to New Zealand to wear while attending the Dunedin centennial celebrations. Evidently his was the only topper to appear. “I only wore it once,” he told his listeners, with a wry smile.
