Deputies Near Break Over Austria

LONDON, Thu. (10 a.m.)—A breakdown threatens the Foreign Ministers' deputies’ conference, which is attempting to evolve a treaty' of independence for Austria, says Reuters diplomatic correspondent. British, American and French delegates maintain that Austria’s 1938 frontiers should remain, but Russia insists that, to meet Yugoslavia’s claims to parts of Carinthia and Syria, there must be frontier rectification.

The British delegate said he would consult his Government to ascertain if there was any use in continuing the discussions.

The American delegate, who is the next chairman, said he would not call a meeting until the British delegate reported the result of the conversation with his Government.
