Rain Brings Better Shooting Prospects
KAITAIA, Fri. <Sp.) With some rain in most Far North districts, prospects for game shooters have improved and larger bags are hoped for this week-end.
The total figure for licences sold in the Mangonui-Whangaroa Acclimatisation Society's area to date is not available, but the secretary (Mr L. O. Gallagher) said yesterday that this should compare well with last year’s total of !i2O.
Best results for duck in the opening week-end .veve secured in the further North, but increased water should give improved results in the Kaitaia and Awanui districts. Wet conditions will also drive the pheasants out from heavy cover. The Mangonui-Whangaroa society is taking steps to help eradicate poaching and illegal shooting. No moonlight shooting of duck has been reported this year as opportunity has not presented itself, but ii is expected this will be a recurring difficulty. again requiring action.
