Encouragement Helps

All that the Whangarei Public Service women’s hockey team needs to make it good is some practice and moral support. “They’re mighty ragged,” said one spectator on Saturday.

Maybe they are, but what team is not so early in the season? Among the maroon and blues there are some sound players who are showing the rest of the team how it is done.

Although they were beaten the first week by the NAF, they had a good win on Saturday. This is a sign of progress. The leader of the team (Miss J. Webb) is an ex-Northern Wairoa rep. All the girls who play in the service team are drawn from Government Departments. Except for two, they are all tyros.
