WOMEN'S INSTITUTES

Whangarei Centre

The Whangarei Centre Women’s Institute met on Wednesday. Mrs Corbett, delegate to the Whangarei Federation Council of Institutes, gave a report on the meeting. The Whangarei Centre was again fortunate in winning the bell for the best programme of work for the year ending on March 31. Mesdames Webb and Crawshaw were elected members of the federation for the Whangarei district institutes for the coming year. Mrs Webb was also appointed delegate to the conference of the Dominion Federation of Institutes in Wellington during August.

Mrs Calder provided a competition (guessing the names of songs). This was won by Mrs Marwick, who scored 16 out of 17.

There was a good exhibit of soft toys made by Women’s Institute members. Mrs Marsh won the first prize and Mesdames Roland and Taylor tied for second place. In the flower competition Mrs Courtney was first with Mesdames Hirtzel and Bellingham tying for second place. The Golden Chain, “Household Hints,” was given by Mrs Webb. Mrs Mudgway did good business at the trading table. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Crawshaw, Babe and Corbett. Mrs Dale judged the toys and flowers.
