Tribunal Policy On Establishment Risks
WELLINGTON, Fri. (P.A.)—There were risks which, in the ordinary course of trade, must be borne as the price for the prospect of future gains expected to be derived from a new method, or process of manufacture, said the Director of Price Control (Mr A. L- Wise), in the course of the hearing of an application before the Price Tribunal today. The division, he said, was of the opinion that a firm should not seek complete insulation against contingencies by asking the tribunal to authorise and the public to pay a price sufficiently high to .enable full production costs and an ample margin of net profit to be recovered from a new production technique right from the time of its inauguration. The tribunal was hearing an application by New Zealand Dry Cleaners and Dyers, Ltd., of Auckland, for authority to increase by 13.75 per cent its charges for dry-cleaning and dyeI ing.
It was part of the basis of application that additional expenses had been incurred in connection with the operation of a new process. The tribunal reserved its decision.
