Usages At Least 1 Year's Training

DUNEDIN, Mon. (P.A.L—At least one year’s military training for all young men was advocated by Mr J. T. Burrows, in an Anzac Day address in the Dunedin Town Hall.. Mr Burrows is Rector of the Waitaki Boys’ High School and a former brigadier in the 2nd NZEF who was awarded the DSO and bar. He i(rged preparedness, “in this mad post-war scramble.”. Mr Burrows said some form of compulsory training was necessary with the world in its present state. With military training he believed the country's men would be better titled in every way to be good citizens. “There is hardly any need for me to stress the need for military preparedness with the world on the verge of war,” he continued. “I do not believe that military preparedness does make for war. I do know that a nation caught unprepared loses countless lives which might have been saved.”
