Dairy Produce Contracts
The fact that the Dairy Products Marketing Commission would shortly be entering into negotiations in Great Britain, was mentioned by Mr Hale.
He made it clear that in these negotiations all factors, including the prices paid to other countries, could be included. The extension of the actual term of the contract will also be discussed. “The next task for the Commission will be negotiating of new heads of agreement to the existing butter and cheese contracts, and negotiations of the future price for butter and cheese sold overseas,” said Mr Hale.
"Having taken part in the last two negotiations, I am fully aware of the difficulties facting the Commission in the task of arriving at contract terms which will be fair both to the United Kingdom and to this country. "The Danish butter price of 321/6 per cwt sterling, and the Canadian cheese price of approximately 170/per cwt. sterling, are factors which will have to be considered by the Commission, in the light of the clause under the heads of agreement, entitling them to take into consideration prices of supplies from other countries.
“At the same time Britain’s economic position must be fully considered, having regard to the absolute necessity of supplying her with the maximum quantity of food.” Mr Hale said.
