Clive Arlidge, Aged 10, Lands 1971 b Marlin
RUSSELL, Tue. (Sp.).—“ You’ve..got a fish—now go to it,” said Mr Francis Arlidge, of Russell, *£o his 10-year-old son Clive when he was fishing from his father’s launch, Alma G., at Russell recently. '
Clive went to it and landed a 1971 b striped marlin. For 20 minutes young Clive fought the fish unaided He is still thrilled about it.
March was a particularly good month for other and older fishermen of the Bay of Islands Swordfish and. Mako Shark Club. The total number of fish caught was 182. They included six black and 67 striped marlin, five mako sharks, two hammerheads, and two kingfish. Sir Basil Hill, of London, received the silver pin for the heaviest fish to date. LARGEST MAKO He landed a 3931 b striped marlin* The largest mako. weighing 5621 b. was caught by Mr C. W. Follard. of Auckland, when fishing from the Rosemary. A 6031 b black marlin was landed by Mr Peter Doloris, also of Auckland, when fishing from the Alma G.
Thirty-eight fish were caught last week' in the Bay. These included one black marlin, and 37 striped marlin. Launch records to date show that the Rosemary has brought home -16 fish, the Avalon and the Alma G 44 each, and the Knoxie II the hat-trick twice, when Mr F. W. Vosseler, of Wellington, and Mr E. P. Walker, of Pakafaka. landed three each, on March 31 ail'd April 2 respectively. MF'M. J. Cassidy and his son Bruce, from -Auckland,’ landed three striped marlin- each last week.
