Recognise Value Of Research Work

AUCKLAND. Tue. fP.A.l—Recognition of the value of scientific research as an integral part of peacetime defence was a new and desirable development. said Professor Burbidge, Professor of Physics at Auckland, commenting on the new defence policy. He said new avenues of employment were opened up for graduates of science and engineering who would provide the raw material for any scientific defence corps. “Subject to retention of its free and unfettered status the Auckland University College's support of any scientific research project can be assured.” said the college president (Mr W. H. Cocker). He added that the college had not yet been consulted.
