Wreckage Of Scow Haere At Parengarenga?
KAITAIA, Sat. (Sp.)—Wreckage considered likely to be that of the missing scow Haere has been found on the east coast of the Far North. It was inspected by police officers yesterday and will be the subject of detailed report to the Marine Department.
The discovery' was made by Mr C. Milsson, who was camping in the area, and was in the vicinity of Coal Point, Kohau. just outside the entrance to Parengarenga Harbour where the Haere loaded glass sand for Auckland before her disappearance without 'further trace last year. The nearest wreckage is only two miles by land and three miles by sea from the point where the Haere’s last cargo was loaded. Constables G. F. Molloy, of Kaitaia, and R. T. J. McNeil, of Houhora, who yesterday made an arduous trek by road, launch and horseback to inspect the scene, reported that the wreckage is definitely that of a coastal scow. Nothing identifiable was found, excep perhaps to some marine experts familiar with the missing vessel.
One piece of wreckage was 42ft long, and included the anchor hawse-pipe. Numerous smaller pieces, including a hatch cover, consisted mainly of splintered and broken planks., The wreckage was thrown along a mile or more of inaccessable beach which is rarely visited. LUGGAGE Luggage bearing the name Stewart was among the debris, but no one of that name was among the five members of the Haere's crew. Apart from the Haere. the only' vessel lost anywhere near the vicinity recently, was the 27ft American yawl Alone, whicli was never sighted again after she left Suva on May' 2 for Auckland in the course of a world voyage.
