Russian Counter To W. German Flan
BERLIN, Sun. (11 a.m.) —Russian sources say Russia may incorporate her sector of Berlin into the Russian zone as a counter-measure to the Anglo-American plan to strengthen the administration of the western zones Reuters reports. The Berlin City Council may be dissolved and Soviet representatives removed from the Four-Power Kommandatura. “There is no space in Berlin for supporters of Germany’s partition,” says the Red Army newspaper Taegliche Rundschau, which continues: “England and America have embarked on violation of the control mechanism which would unavoidably change Berlin’s occupation statute.” Well-informed officials say a big move of American personnel from Berlin to Frankfurt is imminent. Only the shell of the Military Government will remain in Berlin to avoid the impression that America, Britain, and France have ceased trying to agree with Russia.
BITTER SHRIEK According to the Berlin correspondent of The Times, Communist newspaper comment on the Anglo-Ameri-can proposals in the Western zone of Germany has risen to a shriek and is particularly bitter against the German party leaders in the combined zone. The proposals are described as “an ret of shamefulness which can never, be wiped out.” The German leaders who accepted hem are denounced as “the crooks of Frankfurt.” The Neues Deutschland, organ of the Russian-sponsored Socialist Unity Tarty, openly threatens the German leaders, saying: “The struggle for the maintenance of German unity can be won only after the sharpest reckonings with these quislings."
