17 Killed, Nine Hurt In Plane Crash
NEW YORK, Wed. GO a.m.)—A chartered twin-engined Douglas passenger plane crashed in a Savannah River swamp, near Savannah (Georgia) today, killing 17 and injuring nine. The pilot was among the dead and the co-pilot among the injured. Fifteen of the killed and nine of the injured were Puerto Ricans, bound for their homeland from Newark, New Jersey. Puerto Ricans were involved in a chartered palne tragedy on July 13, 1946, at Melbourns, Florida, when a similar aircraft crashed into a swamp killing 21.
