Assessment Court Sits At RusselL
RUSSELL. Wed. (Sp.)—The lack of any transactions establishing comparable 1942 values was mentioned by the president (Mr E. H. Burton), when the Assessment Court yeterday heard submission for property valuation reductions.
Principal case at issue was the ap-present-day indications in Russell town ment to valuation placed on a section of two roods at the corner of Baker and Hazard Streets in the Russell Town Board area.
Figures set by the valuer (Mr A. H. Farrell) as at March 31. 1947. to which amendment was sought were: Capital value £340, unimproved value £315, value of improvements, £25. Declining to approve any reduction on these figures, the court ruled the valuation to be a fair assessment on present-day indications in Russell otwn district. Mr Burton said that no other indication was available in the absence of any sales in the area, establishing a contrary 1942 basis.
The capita] and unimproved value of a section of 2 acres 3 roods, owned by Mr S. IVI. Baker, on Blind Road, was reduced from £250 to £225 by agreement.
The court consisted of the Land Sales Committee, with Mr Burton presiding, together with Messrs L. J. Brake and E. A. McLauchlan.
