The Zionist movement, which had as its objective the return of the Jews to Palestine, was initiated by Dr Herzel in Switzerland in PALESTINE August, 1897. Fifty PARTITION years later, viz., 1947, completes the jubilee, the year of release, and to* ward the end <sf August this year the United Nations took a hand, with the result that the Jews are to become a nation once more in their own land, thus beginning the fulfilment of a prophecy by Ezekiel, chapter 37, where, under the simile of a resurrection of dead people there is a literal resurrection of a politically dead people, buried in their graves among the nations from which they are now coming out —a nation being reborn. These and many other prophecies go to show that the restoration of the Jews to their own land is in accord with God’s promise, that He Who scattered Israel will gather them, “and will deliver them out of all places where they have been scattered in the cloudy and dark day" (Ezekiel, 34: 12). The movement now begun must go on and continue to grow, and no power on earth can stop it until the time comes when “the Lord shall inherit Judah His portion in the Holy Land, and shall choose Jerusalem again. “In those days it shall come to pass that ten men out of all languages of the nations, even shall take hold of the skirt of him that is a Jew, saying, ‘We will go with you: for we have heard that God is with you’ (Zech. 8: 23). “God’s promises must be fulfilled.”— K. R. MACDONALD. TEMPORARY BUILDING In view of the difficulty in obtaining building material, the Whangarei Borough Council last night decided to renew temporary building permits for a further 12 months. The engineer (Mr I. A. Cromie) reported that 30 temporary permits had been issued.
