Clothes Rationing Abolition Welcomed

AUCKLAND, Mon. (Sp.) Broadly speaking it must be obvious to all that most items of clothing were now available in reasonably good supply throughout the country and the continuance of rationing was unnecessary, said the past president of the Auckland Manufacturers' Association (Mr S. Howard Hunter) last night. The removal of the rationing was a wise step and would be welcomed by the trade. Baby clothing coupons, like those for ordinary clothing, household linen and footwear, would presumably go out of currency, and deta.led plans had yet to be worked out as n> how the limited supplies of baby materials could be distributed to best advantage, a member of the retail trade said in Wellington at the week-end. Every effort would be made to ensure that expectant mothers obtained fair supplies of white w,ool and material. Discussion between the retailers and the rationing authorities would be held without delay.
