School Boarders Disperse
By this evening the 200 boarders of the two secondary schools at Whangarei will have left for their homes, byrail, buses and private cars. A total of 14 students from the Whangarei secondary schools will be sitting for university entrance and junior national scholarship examinations this week. School certificate examinations concluded on Friday. The principal of (he Whangarei Boys’ High School (Mr A. R. Ryder) raid today that pupils were to return books to the school book room on Tuesday and Wednesday. Terms reports and magazines would be issued to day pupils on Friday and would be posted to boarders. Countrypupils or their parents could collect reports and magazines this week. Military uniforms were to be hand-
ed in to the army authorities during the week. The annual prize-giving function could not be held under the present circumstances, but it was expected that a' ceremony would be arranged early next year. It hud been necessary to cancel the annual honours evening tendered to senior champions, school sports representatives and outstanding scholars. This function, usually attended by about 60 pupils, had been arranged for Friday evening. Mr Ryder stated that no information had been received regarding the annual course for prospective cadet n.c.o.s, usually .held at Papakura in January. The parents of pupils of Forms 3, 4 and 5 are requested, to notify the school of those who would be returning to continue their studies in 1948.
