To Re-open Honey Trade With ILK.

WELLINGTON, Sat. (P.A.)—“lt is hoped to recommence the export of honey to the United Kingdom to assist the Aid for. Britain campaign,” said the Minister of Marketing (Mr Cullen) today. “During the war years honey was supplied on a compulsory basis to the Internal Marketing Division’s blending plant in Auckland to meet essential military and civil requirements. With the cancellation of the wartime regulations, the supply of honey became voluntary and fell from over 1000 tons delivered to less than 50 tons annually. 400-TON MINIMUM “To assist Britain, to re-open the export market and to keep the honey blending plant operating as an economic unit, discussions have taken place with the National Beekeepers’ Association of New Zealand, the Honey Export Control Board and the Honey Suppliers’ Association, and an agreement has been reached whereby beekeepers will supply a minimum of 400 tons to the Internal Marketing Division, half of which will be exported to the United Kingdom. “For the 1947-48 season, the division will pay 7d per lb pro rata, according to grade, plus 3id per lb on a flat basis, to be paid out of current revenue from the sale of seals. REVISED COMMITTEE “If current revenue from the sales of seals is inadequate, revenue from this source and accumulated in the reserve account, will be used, so that suppliers can be assured that they will receive the full amount of 3Jd per lb. on all honey accepted by the division, in addition to the 7d per lb. pro rata according to grade.” The Minister said that in order to assist in the marketing of honey, a revised Honey Marketing Committee is being appointed and each organisation represented at discussions is to nominate one producer member to act on this committee for the current season. after which producer members will be elected by suppliers.
