Trade Union Conferences
WELLINGTON, Mon. (P.A.)-Two important trade union conferences begin in Wellington this week.
The first is the biennial conference tomorrow of the New Zealand Waterside Workers’ Union, and the second the National Council of the New Zealand Federation of Labour, opening the following day. A considerable part of the business of the federation meeting will be on wages and prices, regarding which there are many representations from affiliated organisations, and a declaration of policy concerning another wage increase is expected to be made. It is expected that M.P.s superanimation will also be discussed. The watersiders’ conference, at which two delegates of the Australian Waterside Workers’ Federation are expected, will probably last 10 days discussing current economic and political issues, with special interest in the Honolulu conference in January between representatives of maritime organisations of Pacific countries.
The union will also consider the question of advising natives in South Pacific islands on the question of improving social and economic conditions.
