Northland College Principal's Report 1
KAIKOHE, Wed. (Sp.)—A roll of 203, consisting of 86 girls and 117 boys, with 52 boarders in residence, was reported by the principal (Mr N. P. Pitcaithly) to last night’s meeting of the Northland College committee of management. Mr R. H. F. Moran presided in the absence of the chairman (Mr H. F. Guy). Mr Pitcaithly showed that he had 28 enrolments for 1948, four for 1949, one for 1950 and one for 1951. Visitors ‘in November included Mr J. R. Mayclair, a New Zealand artist, who had exhibited examples of oil paintings to some of the pupils,, and Mr J. S. Morrison, 0.8. E., F.C.S., Ass. M.Sc. Tech., of St Anne’s, England, who had shown great interest in the multi-course development of the college. FARM DEVELOPMENT The school’s agricultural department was indebted to local farmers, Messrs J. L. Wallace, R. H. Robson, H. T. ! Atkinson, J. W. Byers and A. E. R. Henwood, for their assistance in field j days, demonstrations and judging of | stock. Experimental work on potatoes in! conjunction with the Department of; Agriculture had been started, an area j having been planted. Maize trials are being begun immediately. The college now had a considerable area in j crop.
The General Purposes Fund Appeal had realised £lO7, enabling an expansion in the library and an increase in equipment for organised games. Various sets of technical and reference books had been donated by influential friends of ! the college.
